Maloff Protect

Maloff Protect is suitable for adults aged 18 years and over. It’s one of the few malaria prevention tablets available without a prescription in the UK.

Do not use Maloff Protect if you:

• Are allergic to atovaquone, proguanil hydrochloride, or any other components of the medication
• Have kidney disease or liver conditions
• Are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to become pregnant or suspect you might be pregnant (unless prescribed by a doctor)
• Weigh less than 40kg or are under 18 years old (unless prescribed by a physician)
• Have a history of fits, convulsions, epilepsy, or depression
• Are currently suffering from tuberculosis (TB)

If you are taking any of the following medications, stop taking Maloff Protect immediately and consult your healthcare provider:

• Etoposide (used in cancer treatment)
• Metoclopramide (for nausea and vomiting)
• Tetracycline, rifampicin, or rifabutin (antibiotics)
• Zidovudine, efavirenz, indinavir, or protease inhibitors (for HIV treatment)
• Warfarin or other anticoagulants, including NOACs such as apixaban, rivaroxaban, and dabigatran etexilate

Always check with your doctor or pharmacist if you have any concerns.

• Dosage: Take one tablet once daily, ideally at the same time each day.
• With food: Take your tablet with food or a milky drink whenever possible to improve absorption and reduce stomach upset.
• When to start: Begin taking Maloff Protect 1 to 2 days before entering a malaria-risk area.
• During travel: Continue taking one tablet daily throughout your stay in the malarious area.
• After travel: Keep taking Maloff Protect for 7 days after leaving the malaria-risk area to ensure full protection.

Important:

• If you vomit within one hour of taking your tablet, take another dose immediately. If you need to take extra tablets due to sickness, you may need to purchase additional tablets to complete your course.
• Do not take more than the recommended dose.
• Maloff Protect is for oral use only.
• Not suitable for children or adolescents under 18 unless prescribed by a doctor.

Maloff Protect should be taken once daily to ensure maximum protection.

You should purchase enough tablets to cover the entire period including:

• 1 to 2 days before travelling to a malaria-risk area
• The full duration of your stay in the malaria area
• 7 days after returning to a malaria-free area

When ordering online, you can order enough malaria prevention tablets for up to 4 travellers. Be sure to calculate the total number of tablets needed for all travellers and the length of your trip.

Please note: The maximum duration of travel for which Maloff Protect can be supplied without a prescription is 12 weeks (93 tablets). For longer trips, please consult a doctor or qualified healthcare professional.
